I walked to the hardware store today, and heard at least 4 different languages, just while walking 4 blocks.

My god the amount of good food almost everywhere you go is overwhelming.

Maybe I’ll have sushi tonight....

Good food is nice. Trying to help customers who can’t speak English and get mad at you for not being able to assist them isn’t quite so nice.

Oh I’ve been there, that gets old quick. But, in my experience, that happens about as frequently as people who can speak english get mad for any other dumb reason

I worked retail for five years 45 minutes from the Mexican border when I was in college. Never once did someone get angry at me when there was a language barrier. The big benefit was trying to speak Spanish to Mexican coeds. “Lo siento, pero hablo un poco español”. I’m handsome and not an asshole so maybe that helped? I’ve also travelled in various countries without speaking the language very well and never had a problem either.

When you’re dealing with people attempting to wire money back home to their families they get very angry very fast.

Yeah, if I was the manager of a wire transfer service, I sure as shit wouldn’t hire someone who wasn’t bilingual. Assuming most of your clients speak Spanish, it should take you all of three hours to figure out how to understand the vocab needed to make a money transfer. My six year old has been taking Spanish for a few months and she knows all her numbers.
